Rock en Seine 2008 is insane

I know I still have about two months and a half to go before I leave for the land of smelly cheese, but I think I’m going to wet my knickers with excitement. REM, Kaiser Chiefs, and Hot Chip will be playing in Paris on August 28! I’ve already expressed my desire to watch Madonna, and I’ve managed to convince my friend Rico to watch her with me. With this new discovery, however, I’m willing to pass up the chance to watch Material Girl so I can watch some of the best artists today. Paris allures all the great talents, and Rock en Seine is France’s resounding response to Coachella, in my opinion.

I mean, look at this lineup!

I really, really want to watch this concert. At 75 Euros, it’s not as expensive as I thought an event of this multitude would be. What’s 3,000 Pesos in exchange for watching artists I will probably never get to watch elsewhere?

There is one problem, though. I’m arriving in Paris on the morning of August 28 and will be proceeding directly to Nantes with the rest of my group to fix our accommodations. I hope my boyfriend will be nice enough to propose that we stay in Paris for at least a day. I’ll probably need to be extra nice after, but that’s not a problem. I’d do anything for this because concerts like this never happen in Manila!

  1. Ah! LOVE Rock en Seine – it looks amazing this year!

  2. I know! I really hope I’ll get to watch it. Which years have you watched?

  3. Hmmm… I’m conflicted about the roster. There are plenty of bands I *like*, but none I really love.

And given the festival set-up, I can’t imagine many of them playing very comprehensive sets. So beyond the singles and live favorties, I wouldn’t count on hearing any over-looked gems that haven’t already been Youtubed to over-exposure.

While I do prefer the intimacy of seeing bands in a club setting, I’ll admit that big festivals have an undeniable charm. The grandiosity of it all, I suppose. And that over-whelming feeling of being in this mass of (ostensibly) like-minded fans.

It’s your call, really. In your position, i’d consider going for the experience alone, if nothing else. (All the more if you’ve got company, to share it with.)
